To the Honorable Tho. H. Dwyer, Judge.
The petition of Manuela Canales Hernandez, aged 70 years, a resident of said County, with respect represents, and declares that she is the widow of Antonio Hernandez, known also under the old family name of Zavalla, deceased, who was a volunteer soldier in the army of the Republic of Texas, and served in the war between Texas and Mexico between the commencement of the Revolution in 1835, and the first day of January 1837, and was in the Company of Captain Joaquin during the siege of Bexar and was present at the surrender of General Cos in December in the year 1835, and that he was a native of San Antonio de Bexar and always on the side of the Americans and never against them - that he received bounty land warrant No. 2065, and made proof of service under a former law and received bonds, which appear of record in the Public Archives at Austin.
She further represents, and declares, that she was married to the said Antonio Hernandez, in San Antonio, Texas, by the Rev. M. Bracks, on the 14th day of July A.D. 1876, as will appear from the Records

Marriage License, Book F, fol. 225, Bexar County, that her name before her said marriage was Manuela Canales, that her said husband Antonio Hernandez died in the City of San Antonio, on the day of July A.D. 1876, aged about 55 years, leaving her without means.
She further represents that she is in indigent circumstances, as above stated.
Wherefore she prays this application as the surviving wife of Antonio Hernandez, a veteran, be received and entered of record, that notice be given as required by law to enable her to receive the bounty, if the same she will ever pray &c.
She further says that she appoints Edward Miles, who formerly represented her husband, her attorney in fact, to receive & receipt such money as there may be due, or that may become due.

We certify on our being duly sworn that we are well acquainted with the above named Manuela Canales y Hernandez who signed the foregoing declaration in our presence, and that we were also well acquainted with Antonio Hernandez in his life time, having been in the same service in the Texas Army in 1835 and 1836 - that he is now dead and the said Manuela is still a widow - that the statements herein made are true.

application of Manuela Canales y Hernandez, surviving widow of Antonio Hernandez, decd., and the affidavits of Antonio Menchaca and Juan Jimenez, witnesses, filed in my office on the 19th day of August A.D. 1876, and the endorsements thereon showing the number and style of the case and the issuance and return of the notice given thereon.
To certify to which I have hereunto signed my name and affixed the seal of the County Court of said County at office in San Antonio this 2nd day of July A.D. 1878.

Be it remembered, that on this twenty second day of October A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Eight, before me, Sam S. Smith, County Clerk of Bexar County, personally appeared J. Wilson Cooke and Thad W. Smith, citizens of Bexar County, and credible witnesses, to me well known, who being by me duly sworn upon oath, depose and say that they are well acquainted with Manuela Canales y Hernandez, surviving widow of Antonio Hernandez, deceased, who has been granted an Annual Pension from the State of Texas under an order of the Honble. Thos. H. Dwyer, County Judge of Bexar County - that she is the identical Manuela Canales y Hernandez, and a citizen of Bexar County, and in indigent circumstances, and was on the first day of October A.D. 1878 still alive.

Affidavit to Procure Quarterly Pension.

Before me, the undersigned authority, personally came Manuela Canales de Hernandez, who being sworn says that she resides in Bexar County, Texas, that she is the identical person to whom a pension was granted under the act of March 25, 1885. And I authorize A. E. Habicht, to collect any warrant for pension that may be issued to me, and to receive any deficiency or other certificate that may be issued to me as such pensioner, and to collect such certificate. Also, at the same time personally came James C. Fisk, a credible person to me known, who being duly sworn says that the facts stated by the first affiant are true.

Before me the undersigned authority personally appeared, Manuela Canales Hernandez, well known to me, who after being duly sworn, says that she is the identical person to whom a pension has been granted under act of March, 1885, amended April 4, 1889. That she resides in Bexar County, Texas, and her post office address is San Antonio, Texas, in above named County.
Also personally appeared Francisco Flores, known to me to be a credible person, who after being by me duly sworn, says that he is personally acquainted with Manuela Canales Hernandez, the above named pensioner and the statement made by her is true & correct.
