On this 1st day of September, A.D. One thousand eight hundred and seventy four, before me, Sam S. Smith, Clerk of the District Court in and for said County personally appeared Justo Travieso, to me well known, who being duly sworn according to law upon oath declares that he is over sixty six years of age; that he was born in San Antonio de Bexar and that he is a native born Texan; that he is the identical Justo Travieso who participated in the struggle for the independence of Texas in the Revolution against Mexico, and was a member of Captain Juan N. Seguin’s Company, and enlisted on the 23rd day of October 1835, and was at the taking of Bexar, in the engagement which took place between the 5th day of December 1835, and the morning of the 10th day of December 1835, under command of Genl Burleson, and actually assisted in the reduction of that place, and remained there until the surrender of Genl Cos, and was discharged from the service on the 25th day of October 1836, that his residence has been continuous in this place until the present date.

In proof of his services he respectfully refers to the Public Archives at the City of Austin, and also to those living witnesses who also here, and to the old citizens of Bexar County.
He desires to obtain the benefits of the acts passed by the Legislature of the State of Texas granting Pensions to the Veterans of Texas &c.
He appoints Edward Miles of San Antonio to prosecute his claim and to furnish such further testimony as may be required in his behalf.
His Home and residence is Bexar County and his Post Office San Antonio.

Also personally appeared Antonio Menchaca and Clemente Bustillo, residents of Bexar County and credible witnesses who are to me well known, who being duly sworn, upon oath depose and say that they are well acquainted with Justo Travieso, the applicant above named, having known him many years, all his life, and that they these affiants were members of the same Company and in the expedition at the attack on Bexar in December 1835, and that they have no interest in this application.

Know all men by these presents, that I, Justo Travieso, of said county, reposing trust and confidence in Edward Miles, do hereby name, nominate and appoint him my true and lawful attorney, hereby revoking and annulling all and former powers for a like purpose and with full power in my name to substitute and revoke such the same at his pleasure to ask, demand and receive from the Public Officers of the State, or from any other person, such Bounty Pay or other evidences of indebtedness, as there may be due or allowed me under the Laws of Texas granting Pensions to the Veteran of Texas &c. as a member of Captain Seguin’s Company in 1835.
Given and granting unto him the said Miles or his substitute full power and authority to sign and execute such receipts in my name, as though I was personally present and acting.
Hereby ratifying and confirming, the acts and doings of my said attorney under & by virtue hereof.

In County Court of Bexar County, to March Term, A.D. 1877.
The Hon. Thos. A. Dwyer, County Judge:
The applicant, Justo Travieso, a native of this State, respectfully represents unto your honor that he believes himself entitled to the benefits of the law granting pensions to the surviving Veterans of the Mexico-Texan War, approved July 28, 1876; that he did service in the cause of Texas in the year 1835 and in the year 1836. In 1835 in the company of Manuel Leal under the command of Col. Seguin, and in the year 1836 he did service in the cause of Texas under the command of Captain Antonio Menchaca; that he has heretofore made proof of his service and received a pension under the laws of 1870; that he is in indigent circumstances; that he hereby revokes and annuls all powers of attorney heretofore given by him touching pensions and substitutes and appoints James G. Fisk his lawful attorney in fact to represent him in all matters hereto relating, authorizing him to receive and receipt for any and all monies, or warrants that may be issued to him. Wherefore he prays that the notice required by law be given and that upon due hearing of the cause the proper certificate be extended to him; and as in duty bound, &c.

Fisk, have, for a valuable consideration, this day sold and transferred unto [blank] all my right, title and interest in the following Pension Certificates, to-wit: One Pension Certificate for the amount of $187.50, and two others for $37.50 each, all dated Austin, January 31st, 1878; hereby granting unto the said [blank] full power and authority to sign and receipt to the proper authorities of the State for the amount here transferred, hereby declaring this power irrevocable.
