On this, 2d day of October One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-four, before me, Saml. S. Smith Clerk of the District Court in and for said County and State, personally appeared Col. Juan Nepomuceno Seguin, to me personally known from 1837 up to the present time, who being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says, that he is Sixty Seven years of age, and was born in the City of San Antonio Bexar, Texas; that he is the identical Juan Nepomuceno Seguin; who participated in the Revolution for the Independence of Texas, in the struggle against Mexico; and further says, that he was a Captain of a Company at the taking of Bexar between the 5th and the morning of the 10th of December A.D. 1835, and remained there until after the surrender of Genl. Cos. That he remained in the service of Texas and was at the Battle of San Jacinto in April 1836, in command of a part of his Company, the remainder of his Company under command of Lieut. Salvador Flores, having been sent out from Gonzales by Genl. Sam Houston, to guard and protect the fleeing Texan families. That he was commissioned in the Regular Army of the Republic of Texas as Lieutenant Colonel, was commander of the Army of the West with headquarters at San Antonio de Bexar in 1836, up to April or May in 1838. That he was a Senator from Bexar County in the Session of Congress of 1838 and 1839. That he has always been a citizen of Texas, but has been temporarily absent at different times in the Republic of Mexico, on business.

He, the said Col. Juan N. Seguin makes these declarations for the purpose of obtaining the benefits which may arise to him under the laws of the Legislature of the State of Texas, under the Act granting Pensions to the Veterans of Texas, and in proof of his services would refer to the Public Archives at the City of Austin, and to many old Citizens and Companions here, as to his identity. He hereby appoints Edward Miles of San Antonio, to represent his said claim.
His home is at his Ranch, Wilson County, State of Texas; and his Post office address is: Floresville.

Also, before me, personally appeared, this day, Henry P. Brewster and Antonio Menchaca who were in the battle of San Jacinto in 1836, his credible witnesses, and to me well known, who being by me duly sworn, upon their oaths depose and say, that they are well acquainted with Colonel Juan Nepomuceno Seguin, the applicant above named, and have known him since, the first named since March 1836 and the latter ever since he was born and that he participated in the battle of San Jacinto, and know him to be the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they, said witnesses, have no interest whatever in this application.

Know all Men, by these Presents, that I, Juan Nepomuceno Seguin, of the County of Wilson, State of Texas, do hereby name, nominate, constitute and appoint, Edward Miles of the County and State aforesaid, my true and lawful Attorney for me, and in my name, place and stead, hereby revoking and annulling all former powers for a like purpose, with full power of substitution and revocation, to ask, demand and receive from the Officers of this State, or from any person whomsoever, such Bond, or pay as there may be due or allowed me, under the Laws of this State, Granting Pensions to the Veterans of Texas &c.
Giving and granting unto him, my said Attorney, full Power to sign, seal, execute and deliver all necessary and useful receipts and vouchers as may be necessary in my name as if I were present,
Hereby ratifying and confirming, all and singular, the Acts and doings of him, my said Attorney, or his substitute may do, or cause to be done, under and by virtue hereof.

Be it Remembered that on this the 2d day of October A.D. 1874, Before me, Saml. S. Smith, Clerk of the District Court of said County, personally appeared Juan Nepomuceno Seguin, to me well known, who in my presence acknowledged that he signed and delivered the foregoing Power of Attorney in favor of Edward Miles.
And he declared the same to be his act and deed for the uses, purposes and considerations therein stated;
