"Since our last arrived a Mail from Holland:
The Ship which the South Sea Company, as we lately mentioned, daily expected from Buenos Ayres, is arrived in the Downs, named the Essex; her Cargo amounts to 12,000 Hides, and 125 Tuns of Silver, besides several Parcels of Goods unknown. Letters Yesterday from Dublin, of the 14th advise, That they were informed that some of their most eminent Merchants have received Letters, giving an Account from Tenerife, one of the largest Canary Islands, that a Subterranean Fire had broke out there, and caused such Devastation, that nine Towns, and Multitudes of People and Cattle were destroyed."

It is historically reasonable and plausible to assume that the Canary Island families, particularly those from Tenerife such as Vicente Travieso, may have avoided serious harm or death from the 1730 subterranean fire (volcanic/geothermal event) Mount Teide (El Teide) due to their emigration timing.
